Strings

Man, string theory is awesome! 26 dimensions, are they kidding, are they making it us, or even scarier, are they telling the truth? When I first heard about string theory, I said to myself, "its probably just like the atom in that they thought it was the smallest particle possible, but in reality it is not, it is composed of many different indescribable neutrons and electrons and has quarks and positrons. Strings are probably the same way, they are MADE of SOMETHING." According to Brian Greene, author of "The Elegant Universe", scientists look at strings like this; a paragraph is made of sentences, sentences are made of words, words are made of letters, but what are letters made of...mu (the eastern term for not yes and not no), it is a irrelevant question because letters are not made of anything, they just are. I think only some scientists think that and others believe they are made of something, the fabric of being. Crazy.
Back to the 26 dimensions...we know 4 dimensions...height, lenght, width, and time. These 4 most likely travel out into the universe forever, or maybe meet their beginning at the end of the universe. The other theoretical dimensions are probably like a calabi yau shape, which is absolutely insane. This thing wraps into itself like an M.C. Esher painting on acid.
Anyway, the Elegant Universe is a great read, makes even the hardest physics understandable with pictures and metaphors. If you want more, go to http://www.superstringtheory.com/

its all in the contrasts. letters are made of vertical and horizontal markings which are interpreted by your brain into patterns which are then compared to archetypes built by experiences, such as we denote a vertical line topped by a horizontal line to be the letter T. Its all in the contrasts which we interpret our world. and while an atom is only a representation of where particles _should_ be, we lack absolute knowledge about what really makes up the universe.

even in that recent experiment where they proved nutrinos exist (by proving they have weight), we still only know that those particles should be there because we can see changes of values that relate to our theories. all im saying is that quantum theory, string theory, spaghetti moster theory... all point to the same thing...
